CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY.com) -- There's breaking news right now from Chesapeake in the case of a man facing trial for killing a Chesapeake Police officer.

A hearing is underway dealing with several important issues concerning the homicide trial of Ryan Frederick.

Frederick is charged with shooting and killing Chesapeake police detective Jarrod Shivers in January.

Today's hearing is dealing with three major issues. First and foremost is the motion to move the trial out of Chesapeake.

The judge heard the arguments and said she will not rule on the motion until October 27th.

She then heard arguments about separating the trial into two different ones, one dealing with the homicide charges, the other for the drug charges Frederick also faces. She ruled against this motion.

The final motion was whether or not to allow the jury to visit the crime scene. The judge said her decision on that motion would be contingent on whether or not she ruled in favor of moving the trial

We'll bring you more on this story tonight on WAVY News at Five, and right here on WAVY.com.
