PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - Monday afternoon Portsmouth detectives were back out at the house where a 16-year-old girl was found dead last Thursday.

At one point, a female detective came running down the street, yelling for another detective. It appeared they had just found a piece of evidence about a block away from the house.

Moments later, a forensic technician carried the item away in a yellow envelope. Whatever was in that envelope was clearly important to the detectives.

Meghan Landowski was found dead about 4 p.m. on April 10th. Neighbors say her step-father came home and found her.

Many neighbors and friends believe this was no random act. They believe whoever killed Meghan was somehow acquainted with her family.

Andrea Warren, the Landowski's next-door neighbor, was the last person to see Meghan alive.

"She came over to my house after school. She came in to borrow some macaroni and cheese. She said she was going to go home and cook it and then come back," said Warren.

But Meghan, never made it back to Warren's house.

"When she came home from school she was talking about what a great day she had. She wasn't scared of anything at all. She said she had just passed a test," said Warren.

Warren says Meghan also left a voicemail message for her mother who was at work. She told her mother the same thing, that she had a great day at school.

Police remain very tight-lipped about this case. They have not yet released the cause of death or any information about a possible suspect. They say they can't release anything right now, because they don't want to jeopardize the case.

Meghan's family is now working on funeral arrangements.
