NORFOLK, VA. (WAVY.com) -- The Lutz family knows the pain of losing
a son in service.
"You're trying to hold onto things and remember things, what
did they look like, what did they used to say," said George Lutz.
"He was only there really 6 weeks when he was killed, so it
was really quite tragic for us. You see people they go to
Iraq, they come home, you don't really think your child is going to
go and not come home," said Patty Lutz.
It's a loss they know others feel as well. Now they're hoping
this symbol will help the nation honor and remember those who gave
their lives fighting for our freedom.
"This is a killed in service flag, if you served in the
military and died on duty this flag honors you," said George Lutz.
Today, with the support of family, friends, veterans and
Congresswoman Thelma Drake, George Lutz unveiled the Honor and
Remember Flag.
"I am really impressed by what he's done. I think his story
is so moving, so compelling and so important that these young
people never be forgotten," said Congresswoman Drake.
In addition to Congresswoman Drake, the flag has grassroots
support from people vowing to sign the petition and fly the flag.
"Whether or not congress ever adopts this, I would like to
see one signature for every name that never came home," said George
Lutz.
As for their son Tony -- "I think he would just be really
pleased and proud," said Patty Lutz.
