Ava Hurdle

Ava Hurdle is the senior reporter on the WAVY News 10 staff. She joined WAVY-TV in 1977.

While Ava has covered a wide variety of stories during her tenure, she specializes in legal issues.

Prior to coming to WAVY-TV, Ava was a reporter for the Norfolk Journal and Guide. While there, she received her first exposure to television by hosting "Black Perspective of the News" on WAVY-TV.

Ava is a graduate of Norfolk State University, earning both a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree.

Ms. Hurdle has been honored by the Norfolk NAACP, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and her alma mater, Norfolk State University.

She has received the "Outstanding Effort by an Individual Reporter" award from the Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters. In addition, her work has been honored collectively by VAPB and United Press International.  Ava is also the 2002 recipient of the Robert S. Gallimore Distinguished Service Award from the Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters.

Ms. Hurdle received the "Circle of Excellence" award from LIN Media, the parent company of WAVY-TV 10, in 1997. She also was recognized as "Employee of the Month" in August 1991 and May 1996.
