Pfizer, the world's largest research based pharmaceutical company, has voluntarily recalled 14 lots of two different birth control pills due to the possibility of inexact tablet counts or out of sequence tablets.
The recall affects customers in the United States who use Lo/Ovral®-28 (norgestrel and ethinyl estradiol) Tablets and Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets (generic).
Pfizer says an investigation showed some blister packs may contain an inexact count of active ingredient tables and and the tablets could be out of sequence. The company says the cause has been identified and immediately corrected.
As a result of the packaging error, the daily dosage of the oral contraceptive may be incorrect and could leave women without adequate contraception, making them at risk for unintended pregnancy. The packaging defects do not post any immediate health risks.
If you have an affected product, please notify your physician and return the product to the pharmacy.
