Fainting Goats

CORAPEAKE, NC - WAVY.com met up with Karen and Terry Boone who own The Breezy Farm located in Corapeake, North Carolina.  They have miniature ponies, chickens, cats, a dog and several fainting goats.

Terry told WAVY.com that anything can cause a spell: a noise, a movement, anything out of the ordinary.  They don't really faint.

"They have a condition called Myotonia Gengenita. They don't actually faint. Sometimes their legs will just get stiff and they'll be standing their front legs way out and back legs way out unable to move."

While I was at the Farm, I got a little too close to a goat named Savannah. Her back legs stiffened up, but just a few seconds later she was on her way.

Terry said, "They're just fun, normally they are all around me, they come around, they want to be patted, they want their ears scratched, you know, when they do faint it's kind of funny."

It's very important that the goats don't get hurt when they go into these myotonic spells that only last a few seconds.

There's certainly a lesson to be learned from Daisy, Snuggles, Savannah, Ricky and the rest of the fainting goats, being unique is great even if you're a goat.

The Boones love all of their farm animals including their fainting goats and hope you love them too!
