Hampton Roads X-mas tree recycling

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Wondering how you're going to get rid of that Christmas tree? No worries, 10 On Your Side has collected information on Christmas tree recycling throughout Hampton Roads.

Christmas Tree recycling in various Hampton Roads cities --


Virginia Beach:

Trees will be collected curbside on your normal trash day. No call is needed.

Also: Southeastern Public Service Authority Christmas Tree Drop-off Event will be held at the following location through February 13. Please call for hours:

Norfolk:

No current information, but trees were collected last year curbside on your normal garbage day.


Chesapeake:

Trees will be collected curbside from December 26th until January 6th. No appointment is need.


Portsmouth:

No current information, but trees were collected last year curbside on your normal garbage day.


Suffolk:

Curbside pickup has already started.


Newport News:

Normal bulk waste collection days. Residents are encouraged to recycle their natural Christmas trees for mulching this year.

Trees can either be brought to the Denbigh Compost Facility, located at 550 Atkinson Way off Warwick Boulevard or they can be placed curbside for pickup on your normal bulk waste collection days.

Please remove all tinsel, ornaments and stands.

James City County:

Christmas Tree Recycling Program - Recycle your Christmas tree! Take it to one of the County Convenience Centers during operating hours. Remember to remove the tree stand and decorations, including tinsel.

The Convenience Centers are located at 107 Tewning Road, 1204 Jolly Pond Road, and 185 Industrial Boulevard (Hankins Industrial Park).

Christmas trees will be accepted free of charge through February 28, 2009. Questions? Please call the Recycling Office at 565-4000.


Hampton:

According to the Daily Press, residents can drop off their trees at any public school through Jan. 15.


Poquoson:

Residents can drop their trees off at the swimming pool parking lot at 16 Municipal Drive through Jan. 26. 868-3598.


York County:

The Daily Press is reporting that the solid waste facility at 145 Goodwin Neck Road accepts trees. The county will also pick them up curbside during the week of Jan. 5. Have the tree curbside by 7 a.m. on your regular pickup day. Trees more than 10 feet tall must be cut in half. A household chemical collection, including electronics, takes place on March 12 at the County Drive location.


Please Note:

If your garbage was supposed to have been picked up on Thursday, which fell on Christmas, the following cities will make the pickup on Saturday:
