WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) - The Williamsburg Fire Department is hosting a free car seat safety check-up.
You can stop by the Williamsburg Chrysler Jeep Dodge Kia at 3012 Richmond Road anytime between 9 a.m. and noon on Thursday, Sept. 20.
Firefighters will be on hand to check that your car seat is properly installed. If it is not, they will install it correctly for you.
No appointments are necessary and the service is free.
The event is in cooperation with Safe Kids Worldwide .
A recent survey by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found 20 percent of parents admitted they don't read instruction manuals for installing safety seats.
The NHTSA says the biggest mistakes they found were related to using the wrong slots for seat belts or leaving the seats too loose.
If you don't live in the Williamsburg area, but would like to get your child's car seat installation inspected, c lick here to find the nearest car seat inspection station.
