CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) - A Chesterfield County woman who used pillows and a blanket to muffle her crying infant daughter has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and felony child neglect.

Twenty-five-year-old Robin Imani Varner entered the plea Tuesday in Chesterfield Circuit Court in the January 2011 suffocation of 5-month-old Josephina Lee.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports Varner told police she placed several pillows and a blanket over the child, who had been crying for several hours.

Varner initially was charged with second-degree murder.

Sentencing has been set for May 2. Varner faces up to 20 years in prison.
