RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia wineries enjoyed record-breaking sales in fiscal 2012.
Gov. Bob McDonnell said Monday that nearly 485,000 cases were sold during the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2012. The previous record was about 477,000 cases sold in fiscal 2011.
Export sales more than tripled, from 700 cases to more than 3,300.
McDonnell says new sales to China and the United Kingdom accounted for a significant portion of export sales.
Sales of Virginia wine in other states rose by more than 24 percent to 14,033 cases.
Virginia reaped more than $1.7 million in wine liter tax revenue.
