RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A rare copy of the original Declaration of Independence is on tour in Virginia this week.
The document goes on display Thursday at the central library in Virginia Beach, then moves to Richmond for two stops, at the Richmond Convention Center Friday and the Virginia Historical Society on Saturday.
Its first stop was Wednesday at Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home near Charlottesville.
The document is one of 26 known original printed copies of the Declaration of Independence.
The copy was purchased by television producer Norman Lear and his wife in 2000 for $8.1 million. They formed a nonprofit company to send the document on tour around the country.
