RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Bob McDonnell is planning to donate more than $100,000 from his inaugural committee to charity.

According to the Virginia Public Access Project, the committee raised $1.9 million from more than 1,550 donors and spent $1.6 million on inaugural events for the state's first Republican governor in eight years.

State law prevents office holders from rolling surpluses into their political action committee fund. The remaining money is now donated to a nonprofit organization.

Phil Cox, who served as McDonnell's campaign manager, says the committee has yet to settle all bills and expects to give more than $100,000 to charity.
