CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WAVY) - The University of Virginia is in search of a new executive vice president.
Michael Strine resigned from the position on Tuesday. He also served as the chief operating officer.
Strine's resignation comes two months after the ouster of U.Va.'s President, Teresa Sullivan. Sullivan was later reinstated.
NBC affiliate, WVIR, in Charlottesville reports Sullivan and Strine had different plans for the university. They report he was an "internal spy" for the board of visitors before Sullivan's forced resignation.
George Cohen, with the U.Va. Faculty Senate, said this is an opportunity for Sullivan to re-establish her authority and vision for the university.
"I think Mr. Strine did the honorable thing," said Cohen. "I think it's a way we can help to rebuild the trust that was damaged as a result of the Sullivan incident."
Sullivan said Tuesday, she will move forward with internal re-structuring.
