CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - The University of Virginia will continue a fundraising campaign it began in 2004 until it reaches the $3 billion goal.

About $2.6 billion had been raised by the end of 2011.

University senior vice president Robert D. Sweeney tells The Daily Progress that U.Va. is committed to reaching the campaign's goal, regardless of how long it takes.

The campaign was hampered by the recession, which caused donations to plummet.
