RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Bob McDonnell says $700,000 in federal state grants is headed to Washington County to help rehabilitate homes damaged in the April tornados.
The grants will be used to rehabilitate 11 homes, alleviating unsafe conditions.
A powerful EF3 tornado hit the Glade Spring area of the county, packing winds of up to 165 miles per hour that toppled tractor-trailers, destroyed homes and left four dead and another 50 injured.
McDonnell says Washington County has worked hard to rebuild from the tornado and that the grants will help the uninsured and under-insured.
