RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) - UVa reinstated Teresa Sullivan as president on Tuesday, and state politicians voiced their support of the university's decision.
"I am heartened by today's unanimous decision by the Board of Visitors to reinstate President Sullivan," former governor and US Senate candidate Tim Kaine said. "I am confident that the University of Virginia will emerge stronger than ever and continue to move forward as an exemplary educational institution critical to the future of our Commonwealth."
Governor Bob McDonnell had issued a threat to the board last week to resolve the discrepancy surrounding Sullivan, and voiced his approval of the Board of Visitors' actions.
"The Board itself admittedly made mistakes and did not act with the procedural transparency that should be accorded such a significant decision," McDonnell said. "The Board did lay out, in subsequent days, pressing concerns that led members to believe changes at the University were necessary."
Sullivan's secret dismissal from her post three weeks ago angered students and faculty.
