Police officer fatally shoots motorist

CULPEPER, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a motorist by a Culpeper police officer.

State Police say the officer became involved in a physical altercation Thursday morning in which 54-year-old Patricia A. Cook of Culpeper was shot. Cook died at the scene.

Cook's body has been sent to the state medical examiner.

Culpeper police and the Culpeper County sheriff's office are assisting in the investigation.
