RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) - The Virginia General Assembly has tabled legislation that would have limited the number of out-of-state students admitted to state universities and colleges. Meaning the bill will not likely advance in this session of the General Assembly.
House Bill 1026 , proposed by Delegate Timothy Hugo (R-Fairfax County), would have required state universities to enroll at least 75 percent of their students from the in-state applicant pool.
The measure would have affected the University of Virginia, William and Mary, Virginia Tech and James Madison University.
Supporters of the bill say out-of-state students are flocking to Virginia schools, attracted by their low tuition.
