RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Republican Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan landed at Richmond International Airport the day after the RNC wrapped up. He was set to appear with Mitt Romney on Friday, who at the last minute decided to tour damage from Hurricane Isaac in Louisiana.

Ryan greeted 2,000 supporters with “red meat” political talk about President Barack Obama.

“President Obama came in during troubling times," Ryan said. "He likes to remind us of that. Here's the problem,. he made things much worse. He can't run on his record. He is going to distort, divide, demagogue, everything, but he can't talk about the last four years because it is a bad track record."

The rally was held outdoors, and Senate candidate George Allen stood by the candidate at Martinair's general aviation hangar.

“The President was asked recently, 'Looking back these last four years, does he have any doubts?' He says, 'I haven’t communicated enough.' He goes on, 'I need to tell the American people a story.' As if that is what he needs to do. He needs to talk more? And we haven’t heard enough words in the White House? We haven't had enough leadership in the White House.”

The appearances made it absolutely clear that whoever wins Virginia will likely win the election.

“We want to earn your support," Ryan said. "We want to deserve the victory. If we put in the right leaders, we can put this country back on the right track again. We can get back to work again, we cant get the American dream back on track again."

Paul Ryan sat down in an exclusive one-on-one interview WAVY's Andy Fox, which will air during WAVY's morning show starting at 6 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1.

President Obama will be in Norfolk Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Norfolk State University. His speech is set to begin at 10 a.m.
