RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Bob McDonnell is now overseeing the state's troubled computer and information-technology superagency.
McDonnell signed emergency legislation on Monday that restructures the Virginia Information Technologies Agency created in 2003. Under the new law, the agency and its director will now report to the governor through the office of Secretary of Technology Jim Duffey.
McDonnell says the new oversight will enhances the agency's effectiveness and facilitate better information technology integration.
The legislation stemmed from a General Assembly investigation of the agency and its 10-year, $2.3 billion contract with Northrop Grumman, the largest state contract ever with a single vendor. VITA has been plagued with cost overruns, service outages and delays that have paralyzed state agencies.
