HALIFAX, Va. (AP) — An elementary school principal in Halifax County says 15 students have served one-day suspensions for using hollowed-out markers and pens to shoot air gun pellets on the school playground.

Meadville Elementary School Principal Marliss Marczak says the suspensions were served Friday after a school bus driver was hit by one of the pellets and reported it to the principal.

Parents of some of the suspended students say the punishment was too harsh.

Barczak tells WSET-TV (http://bit.ly/129k32U) that the punishment sends a clear message about such behavior.
