GLOUCESTER, Va. (AP) — A Gloucester County couple whose daughter was found in a makeshift cage pleaded guilty to felony abuse charges.
Media outlets report that Brian and Shannon Gore pleaded guilty Tuesday after jury selection had already begun for their trial. They also entered an Alford plea on aggravated malicious wounding charges. That means they did not admit guilt but agreed that evidence was strong enough to convict them. Sentencing is set for June 10.
Police say the couple's daughter was 6 when sheriff's deputies discovered her in April 2011 while investigating a burglary report. The deputies reported that the girl was naked, malnourished and covered in her own feces.
