ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (AP) — A mechanic has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for bogus online sales of vehicles and car parts.

The Roanoke Times reports (http://bit.ly/16HKJah) Jeffrey Lynn Overstreet of Callaway was sentenced Tuesday in Franklin County Circuit Court to 18 years in prison, with six of those suspended.

A judge also suspended most of a $137,000 fine but said it would be reinstated if Overstreet failed to pay $28,000 in restitution within five years of his release.

The 46-year-old Overstreet was previously found guilty of obtaining money by false pretenses, failing to file tax returns, operating an unregistered business and money laundering.

According to court testimony, Overstreet accepted money over the Internet for car parts and vehicles he never shipped between 2008 and 2012.
