RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Students at the University of Richmond are being advised to take precautions following an outbreak of mumps.

An alert posted on the university's website says the Henrico County Health Department has identified multiple confirmed cases of mumps among students.

Students are advised to wash their hands often, and to not share glasses, cans or cups.

The alert says students who are ill should isolate themselves from others for five days.

Mumps is spread through droplets of body fluid, usually when someone coughs or sneezes.
