MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) — Patrick Henry Community College plans to create a five-member campus police force.
The Martinsville Bulletin (http://bit.ly/Wozv3h ) reports that the school's board unanimously approved the plan Monday without discussion.
The proposed police department also must be approved by the Virginia Community College System and the state Department of Criminal Justice Services.
Patrick Henry emergency planning coordinator Gary Dove says the police force would include two sworn police officers and three security officers already employed by the college.
Dove told the board that 11 of the 23 schools in the community college system already have established police departments.
