LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Virginia Tech deputy provost Daniel A. Wubah has been named provost at Washington & Lee University.

Washington & Lee president Kenneth P. Ruscio announced Wubah's appointment on Monday in a news release.

Wubah will become the university's chief academic officer on July 1.

Robert Strong has been serving as interim provost since June R. Aprille retired in 2011.

Ruscio says Wubah has led several new initiatives at Virginia Tech, where he also is vice president for undergraduate education and a professor of biological sciences. Wubah also will be a professor of biology at Washington & Lee.

He previously served as associate provost for undergraduate academic affairs at the University of Florida, and in several positions at James Madison University. He also was chairman of Towson University's department of biological sciences.
