CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) — Chesapeake's City Council has rejected a proposed subdivision near Fentress Naval Auxiliary Landing Field.
Media outlets report that the council voted Tuesday to reverse an earlier zoning vote that would have allowed the 31-home subdivision.
The Navy and state elected leaders said the project violated a commitment made by Chesapeake and Virginia Beach to protect Fentress and nearby Oceana Naval Air Station from further residential encroachment.
