2 buildings planned by developers to serve VCU

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Private developers plan to construct two buildings that will house Virginia Commonwealth students, classrooms and administrative offices.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/W7OAcD ) reports that ShaferGrace LLC will build a $22 million, 11-story building that will have 152 apartments. It also will have commercial space on the first floor.

Phil Roper will build a $15 million, seven-story building next door on property owned by the VCU Real Estate Foundation. This building will house classrooms and offices. It also will have retail space.

Roper also is a principal in the housing project.

VCU associate vice president Brian J. Ohlinger says the housing project is expected to be completed by August 2014. The other building is scheduled to be completed in November 2014.
