RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A Chesterfield County sports complex is being sued by Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for selling memberships for a facility that it hasn't yet built.
Cuccinelli's lawsuit says SportsQuest sold memberships initially without saying when the health and fitness center would open. Memberships then were sold with an opening date but the facility wasn't built by that date.
The lawsuit says SportsQuest has violated Virginia's Health Spa and Consumer Protection acts.
SportsQuest founder and Chief Executive Officer Steve Burton tells media outlets that he's confident the company will be vindicated. He declined to say more because the lawsuit is pending.
Cuccinelli filed the lawsuit this week in Chesterfield Circuit Court.
