NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A former Blackwater contractor will be sentenced for the May 2009 shooting death of an unarmed Afghan civilian in Kabul.
Christopher Drotleff of Virginia Beach and Justin Cannon of Corpus Christi, Texas were convicted of involuntary manslaughter in March.
They shot at the rear of a vehicle on a dark road as it passed them near an accident, killing its passenger and a man who was walking his dog. They said they feared for their safety.
Drotleff will be sentenced in federal court in Norfolk on Tuesday June 14 for the passenger's death. Cannon will be sentenced June 27. They were acquitted of all other charges.
They face a maximum sentence of eight years in prison, although prosecutors say federal sentencing guidelines suggest imprisonment between 33 and 41 months.
