FRONT ROYAL, Va. (AP) - Four rare wolves have been born at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, Va.
The Smithsonian says the litter of maned wolves was born Jan. 5. The group is the first born at the institute in two years.
Maned wolves live in central South America. There are approximately 20,000 left in the wild, and only 20 percent of their natural habitat remains.
A total of 72 maned wolf pups have been born at the institute since 1975.
