MIDLOTHIAN, Va. (AP) - Albemarle and King George counties are now eligible for federal assistance to help residents rebound from a magnitude-5.8 earthquake and its aftershocks.

The assistance was announced Thursday by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.

Under the program, homeowners, renters and business owners in those two counties can seek assistance for damages caused by the powerful earthquake on Aug. 23 and aftershocks through Oct. 25.

Residents seeking the assistance must contact FEMA directly. The deadline is March 5.
