PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Bedford County Animal Control, assisted by the United States Equine Rescue League (USERL) removed 24 horses from two properties near Goodview, Virginia.
According to a news release from the USERL, "the horses, owned by Gary Chisom were seized when no progress was made to improve their living conditions after an earlier investigation."
The horses were living on less than three acres, were underweight, timid and fearful of humans and in need of veterinary care.
The horses have since been removed and placed in an undisclosed facility in Richmond. The horses will undergo health evaluations and be placed on a rehabilitation program.
