Message from Sheriff John R. Newhart:

It has been a distinct honor to serve you for the past 40 years as your elected Sheriff for the City of Chesapeake. My overall commitment to public service has been to keep Chesapeake safe. With the aid of modern technology, tough jail accreditation standards, and servant leadership, I promise to continue that legacy by laying a strong foundation in public safety that will last for generations to come.

Serving as your Sheriff has been very rewarding and I am even more excited about continuing to serve you in the future.
My experience on the front lines as a military police officer, Chesapeake police officer, and Sheriff for 40 years has provided me with extensive knowledge and experience for all aspects of law enforcement.

In addition I have completed the FBI National Academy, served as Past President of the National Jail Association, and the Virginia Sheriff's Association. My combined experience gives me a profound sense of purpose and a vision that has developed a world-class Sheriff's Office for the citizens of Chesapeake.

That's why I'm asking you to vote for me again as your Sheriff on November 3rd. We have accomplished many things over the past 40 years. But, there still remains much to be done. With your help, we can keep Chesapeake one of the safest cities of its size in the country.
