RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) - U.S. Sen. Mark Warner (D) announced Tuesday he will not be running for governor next year.
Warner, who previously served as governor from 2002 through 2006, cited his duties as U.S. senator as reason enough not to seek the governorship again.
"When I asked Virginians to hire me as their Senator, I made a promise to come to Washington to try to be a problem solver. I have to admit, it’s been tougher than I expected. But I’ve tried to keep at it," Warner said.
Earlier this month, Terry MacAuliffe announced he would be seeking the nomination, making him the likely Democratic candidate in the 2013 election.
