VIRGINIA BEACH, Va - From bank president to mayor of the state's largest city, Mayor-elect Will Sessoms is taking it all in.

Its been a long 24 hours for the man who raised a staggering $600,000 to unseat a woman whose name is synonymous with Virginia Beach, Mayor Meyera Oberndorf.

The 20 year veteran conceded the race Wednesday afternoon at City Hall.

"I have spoken to Will directly just a little while ago and very sincerely congratulated him."

From her rise as a library board member to the city's first elected mayor, Oberndorf prided herself in being a servant of the community and has no plans of retiring now.

"My children who came in from San Francisco and Charlotte North Carolina said I should give thought to writing a book about being a pioneer in modern times."

Sessoms has also extended an olive branch.  "I also made clear I wanted her to stay involved and she wanted to stay involved, so I look forward to working with Meyera in the upcoming years," says Sessoms.

For this former Vice Mayor the rise to the city's top spot was hard work, but he's ready to start fullfilling campaign promises on day one.
