PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) - 10 On Your Side contacted Hampton Roads lawmakers Thursday to see what they were doing the day before looming, across-the-board cuts took hold.

Rep. Randy Forbes (R-VA) and Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA) said they will be staying in Washington, D.C. to work with the Armed Services Committee on what to do next.

Earlier in the day, Wittman led a hearing on ways to deal with the sequester.

Wittman, Forbes and Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) said they have been talking with colleagues on both sides of the aisle and are hopeful a resolution will be reached.

"The good news is there's a lot of dialog and desire to find a better solution," Kaine said.

"It's never totally too late, but they key, as we've said before, is the President has not been very good at being willing to listen to people who disagree with him," Forbes said.

President Obama will be meeting with four top-ranking congressmen Friday in D.C., but no one is expecting a last minute deal.

Congressmen Bobby Scott (D-VA) and Scott Rigell (R-VA) will speak to WAVY News 10 Today Friday morning.
