Two NC men charged with animal cruelty

GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) - Two North Carolina men have been arrested on charges of animal cruelty after several dead and malnourished dogs were found at a home last month.
The Gaston Gazette reported 43-year-old Wesley Scott Ghantt of Lincolnton and 53-year-old David Evander Cooper III of Ranlo have been charged following an investigation.
Gaston County police responded to a home just outside Ranlo on Oct. 10 and found two dead dogs and 11 others in poor condition. One of the sick dogs died while being taken to a veterinarian.
Ghantt is charged with seven counts of cruelty to animals. Cooper is charged with five counts.
Both also are charged with failure to purchase and display valid registration and rabies tags for the animals.
It was unclear if they have attorneys.
