HATTERAS, N.C. (WAVY) - N.C. 12 has reopened again due to high standing water, according to the Dare County Sheriff's Office.

The four-wheel drive route from the Oregon Inlet to Rodanthe first closed around as of 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. Wednesday morning, Capt. W. Charlie Nieman with the Dare County Sheriff's Office said the route will remain closed due to ocean over wash north of Mirlo Beach.

Thursday morning, just before noon, the DCSO posted a note that the road was open again on its Facebook page , however, the sheriff's office sent a note out around 7:30 p.m. that the road was once again closed.

It reopened around 12:30 p.m. Friday.

According to NCDOT, the planned repairs for Highway 12 that were due to be completed by the end of November have been delayed due to overwash. Highway 12 will remain closed through Thanksgiving, and NCDOT says holiday travelers will be accommodated with ferry rides.

The ferry from Stumpy Point to Rodanthe is still running and extra ferries have been added to the Swan Quarter-Ocracoke route.

Ferry information can be found at www.ncdot.gov/ferry.
