RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Gov. Beverly Perdue is providing more information on what she knows about turmoil within the North Carolina Democratic Party that led the party's executive director to resign and placed pressure upon the chairman to step down.
A Perdue spokesman on political matters said Wednesday the Democratic governor was told a party employee had alleged harassment against then-executive director Jay Parmley. Parmley denied the allegation in his resignation letter last weekend. Party officials have declined to say anything about the allegations.
Spokesman Marc Farinella said Perdue was told Chairman David Parker and the party attorney launched a process to address the matter. Farinella said Perdue isn't aware of any settlement terms.
WRAL-TV reported similar details Tuesday, soon after Perdue asked Parker to resign. Parker was still chairman as of late Wednesday.
