CONWAY, N.C. (WAVY) - Northampton County High School was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after an official heard of a possible issue to the safety of the school.

Dr. Eric Bracey, Superintendent of Northampton County Public Schools, told WAVY.com a parent called him Monday night about a 'rumor of safety and security.' that would take place at the school Tuesday. He then went to the sheriff's office for assistance.

The school was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure and additional deputies were dispatched to the school. Bracey said there was a metal detector at the school.

Maj. Daryl Harmon with the Northampton Sheriff's Office told WAVY.com law enforcement officials did not find any weapons on the school property. He said the lockdown was a safety precaution.

According to Harmon, parents started calling his office Monday night about a rumor of a threat as well.
