DARE COUNTY, NC (WAVY) - When Hurricane Irene slammed the Outer Banks in Aug., it left holes in Highway 12. Crews built a temporary bridge over the widest breach to reconnect Hatteras Island with the rest of the banks.

Now, North Carolina Transportation officials want residents to weigh in on how to permanently fix those breaches.

Two meetings will be held for people to share their ideas and suggestions. The first will be held Monday, December 5 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Dare County Administration Building in Manteo. The second meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 6, from 4 p.m. until  7 p.m. at the Rodanthe-Waves-Salvo Community Center in Rodanthe.

The Transportation Department will use the feedback to help make their recommendation to the Governor sometime in January.
