RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is offering patrons a chance to find out why oysterscatchers have long, sharp bills, or why a kind of African wild cat has such long legs.

The museum in Raleigh is sponsoring Darwin Day on Saturday. The event will be held on the first three floors of the museum as well as on the Bicentennial Plaza. Visitors will learn more about Charles Darwin and his research, as well as his legacy.

Staff from the Conservators' Center of Mebane will discuss the advantages that the serval has gained through evolutionary adaptations. Museum, staff and visiting educators will explain Darwinism, natural selection and research stemming from Darwin's original theories.

The third floor will feature Ted Simons, who will talk about oystercatchers on the Outer Banks.
