RALEIGH, N.C. (WAVY) - High winds are impacting holiday travel on the Outer Banks.

The Hatteras-Ocracoke ferry route will experience suspended service Friday and Saturday because of winter weather that is bringing 40-50 mile an hour wind gusts, according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The conditions make the inlet too dangerous to cross.

Information about closures will be posted to Twitter and recorded on the 800-BY-FERRY number, weather information option 1 or call the Hatteras terminal at 252-986-2353 for updates.
