CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (AP) - The Marine Corps and a private foundation are breaking ground on a new clinic in North Carolina to treat servicemen and women suffering from traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress.

A groundbreaking Wednesday at Camp Lejeune marks the start of construction of an $11 million satellite center paid for by the foundation known as the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

The 25,000-square-foot center will operate in connection with a similar facility opened in 2010 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Md.

Foundation spokesman Jody Fisher says the satellite clinic is to be built within three years and then donated to the Department of Defense.

The new center is to be one of nine the foundation is trying to build around the country.
