OUTER BANKS, N.C. (WAVY) - On Jan. 18, crews will begin work to prevent erosion at the site of the temporary bridge on N.C. Highway 12.
The temporary bridge opened in Oct. after Hurricane Irene left four breaches in Highway 12 two months earlier.
The bridge covers the widest gap and reconnects Hatteras Island to the rest of the banks.
Crews will work on the south end of the bridge for the next six weeks.
Flaggers will direct drivers daily during the closures from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.
