HATTERAS, N.C. (WAVY) - Officials say crews have begun repairing NC 12, which buckled and was battered by two hurricanes this year.

According to officials with NCDOT, crews are working on a temporary solution to allow traffic to flow from Hatteras Island to Mirlo Beach by placing sandbags, reconstructing dunes and rebuilding the road near Rodanthe.

Crews hope to make the area passable by Dec. 25, weather permitting.
