FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - The Democrat running for governor of North Carolina is holding town-hall-style meetings as the political world watches the Republican national convention get rolling.

Walter Dalton is speaking with people about jobs and education at Fayetteville Technical Community College.

About two dozen people attended a similar Dalton event Monday at Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington.

GOP gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory is skipping this week's Republican convention in Tampa. His campaign said previously McCrory had too many commitments in the state to attend.
