RODANTHE, NC (WAVY) - Officials announced both lanes of NC-12 between the Oregon Inlet Bridge to Rodanthe will open back up Wednesday evening.
According to Steve Hoggard with the Dare County Sheriff's Office, the lanes will be open to drivers and there will be no pilot car.
For the past week or so, Highway 12 has been closing during the evenings due to high tide flooding and during other times, only one lane has been open.
Residents met with NCDOT officials during the past few days in an effort to seek permanent solutions for the highway citizens would agree with.
NCDOT officials said by the end of the year, construction on two new bridges will have started.
One is a $98 million Bonner Bridge replacement and the other is a permanent structure over the new inlet created by Hurricane Irene on Pea Island.
