HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (AP) - Closing arguments are underway in the trial for a man charged with killing the student body president at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill .

Orange County District Attorney Jim Woodall told jurors Monday that the evidence clearly shows Laurence Lovette robbed, kidnapped and shot Eve Carson on March 5, 2008.

Woodall said Lovette and a co-defendant killed Carson for her ATM card and because she had seen their faces. The card was used to withdraw $700 the night Carson died and another $700 after her death.

Carson was from Athens, Ga., and was preparing to graduate.

Lovette would not face the possibility of the death penalty because he was a minor when Carson was killed.

Defense lawyers have begun presenting their closing argument to the jury.
